CHARITY: Longlands Care Farm

Longlands Care Farm is a registered charity providing alternative education to children in need of provision outside of the state system. It is based on a working farm in Whitbourne, on the Herefordshire - Worcestershire border.

HSF have pledged funding to help with the building of a multi purpose, eco-friendly central building. The building will offer communal indoor space for congregating, demonstrations and learning. A separate, dedicated kitchen area will also enhance the cooking, eating and food preparation experience.

Activities and 'lessons' at Longlands are designed around individual learning needs and the capabilities and aptitude of the students. Longlands provides courses in a wide range of subjects including Animal Care, Cooking and Horticulture, Machinery Maintenance and Tractor Driving and Equestrian Skills. Students are encouraged to enrol in one of the City & Guilds courses that Longlands deliver and so, as well as acquiring valuable vocational skills, they will leave aged 16 or 18 with a nationally recognised qualification. Longlands currently offer C&G Land Based Studies to students to award, certificate, and diploma level.  In addition, modules are offered in employability and personal development. Working with Longlands Care Farm are a range of education providers i.e Pupil Referral Units, Academies, local schools as well as parents/carers referring privately.
