New Charity: Little Troopers

Little Troopers All Together

Little Troopers is a tri-service children’s charity and it’s new All Together deployment club is open to children of all ages and from all three services.

Each year, thousands of military children have a parent, or in some cases both parents, deployed on active service. After the pandemic Little Troopers saw an increase in families contacting the charity to say their children were finding deployments hard and they would benefit from spending time with others in a similar situation. The All Together deployment club does this by bring military children together at fun in-person and online events.

The project launched last summer with a Go Ape adventure day for 80 children at 8 different GoApe sites. The charity then ran a residential weekend in October for 25 military teenagers at an outdoor activity centre in North Yorkshire.

Ellen (15), one of the teens who attended, commented: “At first I was really nervous because I didn’t know anyone but everyone has been really nice and it’s been a great opportunity to make new friends with other people who understand what you’re going through.” The charity will be running two further residential trips in 2023 with the next one taking place in Wiltshire in March.

Little Troopers has also been running a series of fortnightly online workshops since September. Aimed at under tens, and open to British Armed Forces children around the world, the sessions have featured fun activities including dance workshops from Pineapple Dance Studios, science experiments, space adventures, elf workshops, mindfulness activities, live baking and more. More than 250 children have logged in so far.
